Why should I be thinking about my energy usage?

Leisure centres are big users of power. Pro-actively monitoring and controlling usage across a site is good for the environment and generates savings.

Controlling usage assists local authorities to meet low carbon targets and enables Leisure Trusts to submit more competitive bids for leisure management contracts.

The majority of Leisure Centres are estimated to be able to save at least 20% of their gas, water and electricity bills, through improved efficiencies based on our projects to date.

Why should I consider having an assessment?

You should consider the assessment if you wish to make savings on your utility bills and/ or you would like to reduce energy consumption in your building.

We specialise in leisure centres but we also work in the hospitality and education sectors in buildings with leisure facilities such as swimming pools.

We are confident that we will uncover significant savings even if you have reviewed your energy usage in the past. This is because most energy saving measures are done in isolation and the impact of those changes are often not considered in the context of the whole building.

Results are typically delivered within a week of the onsite assessment.

What would an assessment do for me?

The assessment gives you a comprehensive assessment of energy usage across your whole site benchmarked against a comparable energy efficient facility.

The report is broken down into sections detailing the current and projected usage to enable informed decision making. Recommendations are made to form an energy efficiency strategy. See our case studies for further information.

How does Leisure Energy develop an energy strategy?

We start with an assessment to show you how much money you can save, then implement the capital investment improvements, train your staff and work with you to focus the efforts of your organisation to become lean in an age of rising utility charges, to bring about these savings.

What qualifies you to undertake the assessment?

Our analysis comes from our expert consultants.

Since 2006 they have delivered energy reduction recommendations to over 150 leisure centres and schools.

This provides multiple energy efficient sites that we benchmark against. Staff are trained and utilities are monitored and adjusted to maximum efficiency accordingly.

What costs are involved?

Beyond the cost of the report, the costs involved are up to you. Our report makes recommendations by benchmarking against existing working energy efficient leisure centres.

We guide you towards bespoke solutions that will improve efficiency and cut your existing bills, some of which may be free of cost such as utilising existing equipment more efficiently; some may require investment. It is up to you whether you undertake the recommendations in the report.

If the report suggests upgrading or replacing any equipment, it will also detail the approximate saving in energy as well as the estimated payback period. We promise to never take commission from suppliers so our recommendations are independent and based solely on the best solution for the building.

What information do you ask for?

To enable us to provide you with an accurate report, we ask for meter readings from your utilities to undertake a desktop study and benchmark against one of the efficiently run leisure centres we have developed solutions for in the past.

As part of our onsite inspection, we ask to speak to your Centre Manager and also Facilities Manager to help us gain a picture of how the building is used throughout the day and what utilities are used and when.

If our energy experts feel they require further information such as recent refurbishment information, they will request it.

How accurate is your benchmark data?

Our data is drawn from a database built up from delivering energy efficiency strategies to over 150 leisure centres and schools over the last 12 years.

From this data capture and our extensive knowledge of energy saving we can accurately estimate the expected energy consumption of a similar facility, beginning to uncover inefficiencies.

Can I afford the assessment?

In the majority of cases, facilities that do not have an energy efficient strategy spend more in the long run. You will notice quickly that efficient equipment run by well trained staff can save you money so our question is: can you afford not to have the assessment?

Savings can be reinvested into the building, improving the environment and experience for all.

Minor adjustments made will quickly pay back for the cost of the report itself.

If our recommendations include capital investments, we will demonstrate a payback period for your evaluation. Most payback periods are between 2-5 years with many being around 1-2 years, giving a quick return.

In some cases we are able to explore financing to assist leisure trusts and local authorities with the initial investment. If you would like to find out more about these options, please contact us.

If we are unable to identify savings to the value of the energy assessment report, we will refund you the cost of the report.

Do you take commission from suppliers?

If your report recommends investment works, we will estimate the cost, provide you with a full specification of the equipment needed and a recommended supplier.

We take no commission from suppliers in order to give you independent advice that is the best solution.

The equipment we advise may not always be the cheapest but our focus is quality – providing you with durable equipment designed to last so it is an investment rather than selling a product with a shorter life span and therefore costs you more over time.

What ongoing support do you offer after the improvements have been implemented?

We can also provide training and documentation to your team on how to use any new equipment so the equipment is used correctly after installation. We will show them how to monitor and watch for fluctuations that indicate energy is being used inefficiently.

Training is free to staff who manage or operate your new energy saving initatives.

Do you only assess leisure centres?

Our energy saving measures can be applied across leisure centres, hotels and also schools with leisure facilities such as swimming pools.
