Solar Panels Installed at Newbold Comyn Leisure Centre in Leamington Spa
A grant of £234,000 from phase two of the Sport England Swimming Pool Support Fund was awarded to Warwick District Council for Newbold Comyn Leisure Centre – which is operated by Everyone Active – last year for the installation of the panels, which are predicted to save 28.3 tonnes of carbon emissions and provide an energy bill saving of around £31,931 per year.
The solar panel installation at Newbold Comyn Leisure Centre has recently been completed and is now providing electricity to the facility.

Waterfield Leisure Centre and Melton Sports Village Solar Panel Installation Completed
The completed installation of 205 photovoltaic (PV) solar panels are switched on at Waterfield Leisure Centre and Melton Sports Village within the borough of Melton and generating electricity to assist with powering the facilities and lowering their carbon footprint.
These solar projects demonstrate the commitment of both Melton Borough Council and Everyone Active (as the operator of the facilities), to sustainability and net zero targets across the borough. Leisure Energy, who works specifically within the leisure sector, were appointed as principal designer and contractor.
Waterfield Leisure Centre’s 95 roof-mounted solar panels are expected to reduce the carbon emissions at the facility by approximately 7 tonnes per annum;– the equivalent to 310 trees being planted annually – whilst also ensuring utility cost savings at the centre. Sport England awarded this project £88,000 from their Swimming Pool Support Fund. Local authorities have benefitted from the £60m scheme, of which UK Government has contributed £40m and an additional £20m was allocated from Lottery funding.
Melton Sports Village’s installation of 110 roof-mounted solar panels will be set to deliver a carbon emission reduction at the facility of approximately 9 tonnes per annum; giving an annual energy production of 46,450 kWh. Everyone Active has self-financed the £66,000 cost of this project.
Lloyd Barraclough, Everyone Active’s area contract manager, said: “It is great news that these investments will reduce the centre’s carbon footprint going forward. Everyone Active is proud to work alongside Melton Borough Council, as part of our Net Zero Strategy, to help achieve our company’s Net Zero ambitions.”
Neil Bland, Managing Director for Leisure Energy, commented: “The completion of the solar panels at Waterfield Leisure Centre and Melton Sports Village have provided an effective solution for the facilities to lower both their carbon footprint and energy costs. Our partnership with Melton Borough Council and Everyone Active has contributed towards the Council’s net zero targets whilst providing the community with sustainable sports and fitness facilities for ongoing generations.”
