Georgina Cambell joins Leisure Energy as Project Manager
Georgina Cambell joins Leisure Energy as a Project Manager responsible for on-site implementation of energy savings and installs. Georgina has an engineering and energy background, having worked as a Project/Contract Manager for several companies including Avanti Gas, Orona and SCX Special Projects and being responsible for large scale bespoke installations. This has involved site management on nuclear power stations and large gas depots. Additionally, she has been involved in the production of CDM and Health & Safety documentation introducing new structures and systems. She is delighted at joining Leisure Energy and looking forward to working with the team on existing and future projects.
RIBA recognises Managing Director of Leisure Energy with new Fellowship award
Robin Roberts, Managing Director of Leisure Energy, has been recognised as a Fellow with Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA).
The RIBA Fellow membership is awarded to individuals who have made a significant contribution to the profession and who are considered ambassadors for the sector’s future. Under this new membership grade introduced for 2017, Robin is just one of 30 individuals selected globally (14 from the UK) to receive this accolade, which he has added to his RICS Fellowship.
Robin has a well-established background of championing innovation, best practice and sustainability in the built environment, for which he has won multiple awards nationally and internationally for projects he has initiated.
Robin said “It is a real honour to receive this wonderful recognition from the RIBA and I am truly pleased to have now been awarded fellowships from two outstanding professional institutes”.
Public sector leisure facilities at real risk of closure over rising energy costs
A stark warning that more public sector leisure facilities face closure because of ever increasing energy costs came from The Energyst earlier this month. In an interview with Sean Midgley, Energy Manager for SIV, who operate 17 leisure facilities in Sheffield, he confirmed the uncertain future that increasing energy costs has created. Midgley has a firsthand view of how it is affecting leisure centres outside of his area because he also works with Sporta. He is seeing the same problems have a drastic impact on the other 220 members of the charitable and social enterprise organisation.
Lack of Local Authority funding and rising energy costs have created a maelstrom of anxiety which has gripped the industry for over 20 years.
Whilst some centres are able to reduce their energy consumption, keeping costs low consistently with their existing inefficient infrastructure can be problematic. Other centres might lack the full benefits of a joined up energy management strategy across their whole centre, choosing to work on one area at a time. They may also struggle to understand the levels of efficiency their site is capable of without a baseline to compare to.
